Kuwait Hosts Major Asian Organ Transplant Conference As National Programs Expand
WORLD NEWS – KUWAIT: The 19th Asian Society of Organ Transplantation conference opened with a large international turnout and a clear clinical focus on expanding transplant services. Health Minister Dr. Ahmed Al-Awadi inaugurated the gathering attended by more than 700 participants and over 100 speakers from 28 countries, presenting the meeting as a platform to advance organ donation and life-saving transplantation across the region.
The minister framed the conference as both a scientific forum and a public-health signal about urgent regional needs for transplants. He said the event conveys hope and gathers expertise to address growing demand for organ and tissue transplantation in the Middle East, emphasizing collaboration between clinicians, researchers, and policy makers to translate knowledge into care.
Following the opening, Dr. Al-Awadi toured the exhibition of new technologies and techniques underpinning modern transplant programs. Displays highlighted donor systems and clinical pathways for kidney, liver, heart, and lung transplants, alongside emerging tools such as artificial intelligence applications and robotic surgical platforms that aim to refine surgical precision and perioperative management in transplantation.
Kuwaitβs own transplant trajectory was a central theme: the country began kidney transplantation decades ago, has progressively expanded its services, and recently launched a heart transplant program. Officials said preparations are under way to activate liver and lung transplant services in the coming months. The conference, branded CAST 2025 and held for the first time in the region, was portrayed by organizers as a milestone event intended to accelerate capability-building and cross-border exchange in organ transplantation.
