MEXICO: Family’s Multiorgan Donation at ISSSTE Hospital Saves Lives in Historic 2025 Event

WORLD NEWS: In a profound act of compassion, the family of Ricardo Pérez Mora from Tlaxcala made a life-changing decision to donate his organs following his tragic death due to a severe brain injury. This generous act, performed at the General Hospital of the Institute for Social Security and Services for State Workers, marks the first multi-organ procurement of 2025 and provides a beacon of hope for two individuals in critical need of transplants.

Ricardo was a healthy individual until an unfortunate domestic accident led to a severe brain injury, resulting in brain death. With his passing, the hospital’s administrators approached Ricardo’s family to discuss the possibility of organ donation, presenting it as a transformative opportunity for others and a way to turn their loss into a legacy of hope.

Jorge David López León, coordinator of the organ and tissue donation subcommittee for transplantation at the institute, outlined the precise details of the donation process. Ricardo’s kidneys are set to be transplanted into patients at the Regional Hospital in Puebla and the 20th of November National Medical Center in Mexico City. While the hospital currently lacks the facilities to perform transplants directly, it plays a crucial role in the procurement and transportation of organs.

This profound gesture not only provides a second chance at life for recipients but also shines a light on the broader implications of organ donation. It underscores the importance of raising awareness and fostering willingness among the public to consider organ donation as an impactful way to extend life for those in urgent need.
