Man in Urgent Need of Kidney Transplant After Rare Disease Attacks Wife’s Life-Saving Donation

In 2005, Adam Hoover’s kidneys failed due to a rare and incurable kidney disease. Two years later, his wife was a perfect match and donated one of her kidneys, giving him a second chance at life. For 16 years, the transplant kept him healthy, but now he faces the devastating news that the disease has spread to his donor kidney, leaving him in urgent need of another transplant.

Hoover’s condition worsened after a spider bite led him to take medication that revealed his kidney disease had progressed. A biopsy confirmed that the transplanted kidney was no longer functioning well enough to sustain him. Since then, life has been an uphill battle, marked by multiple surgeries and ongoing dialysis treatments. He has undergone around 20 surgeries in the last two years just to maintain a steady blood flow for dialysis.

On the transplant waiting list since 2019, Hoover is now turning to the community for help in finding a living kidney donor. He dreams of growing old with his family, watching his children play baseball, and one day walking his daughter down the aisle. Those are the milestones he hopes to reach if a new donor can be found in time.

For those interested in helping, potential donors can contact UPMC’s living donor program, with Adam Hoover listed as the intended recipient. His wife and transplant coordinator’s contact information is also available through Eerie News Now. As Hoover continues his fight, he holds onto hope that someone will step forward to give him another chance at life.
