Utah Honors 11-Year-Old Paige Gould’s Life-Saving Organ Donations, Inspiring Statewide Initiative

An emotional and impactful story unfolds in Brigham City, where the life and legacy of 11-year-old Paige Gould are being celebrated with a memorial initiative. Paige, remembered for her loving and caring nature, met an untimely death in June 2023 following a hoverboard accident. Despite the heartbreak, her family’s decision to donate her organs transformed a personal tragedy into a life-saving act for five other children. Her organs, including her heart, lungs, pancreas, kidneys, and eyes, have provided a beacon of hope and new beginnings for families who found solace amidst their struggles thanks to Paige’s gifts.

In a touching tribute, the Driver License Division office in Brigham City unveiled a plaque honoring Paige and commemorating the incredible choice her family made. This tribute is a part of a statewide initiative that aims to place such plaques in all 27 offices, with 14 already installed, thus spreading awareness about the life-saving potential of organ donations. Each plaque serves as both a dedication to the deceased donors and an encouragement for families to consider the profound impact organ donation can have on others.

For Paige’s mother, Gypsy Nut, and her family, this initiative is more than just a memorial; it’s an opportunity to champion the cause of organ donation. Gypsy shares a poignant ritual she performs nightly—kissing Paige’s picture and urging her to spread her wings—symbolizing the enduring connection with her daughter and pride in Paige’s altruistic legacy. The knowledge that Paige’s organs have granted other parents more precious time with their children provides a semblance of comfort amid their loss.

This narrative not only honors Paige’s enduring impact but also aims to inspire others to engage in the crucial conversation about organ donation. The story emphasizes the possibility of finding a silver lining in tragic events through preemptive decisions about organ donation, and it underscores the profound effect such choices can have in transforming grief into valuable miracles for others.
