Greg Vladica, a 61-year-old man from Lackawanna County, is in the fight for his life, searching for a living liver donor to save him. Diagnosed in May 2024 with decompensated cirrhosis, Greg has done everything possible to stay healthy, but his liver continues to fail.
A loving husband, father, and proud grandfather to his one-year-old grandson, Noah, Greg once enjoyed golf and family dinners. Now, his days are filled with severe cramps and weakness. His doctors at Penn Medicine say his best chance for survival is a living liver donor, a transplant option many are unaware of.
Unlike other organ transplants, a living liver donor only gives a portion of their liver, which fully regenerates in both the donor and recipient. Greg is already classified as “Penn Ready,” meaning he has completed all required evaluations and is ready for surgery as soon as a donor steps forward.
Greg and his wife, Crystal, remain hopeful that the right person will come forward. They have launched a social media campaign to spread awareness, emphasizing that testing is simple and all medical costs are covered for the donor. Even those unable to donate can help by sharing his story, as just one share could save a life.
