The quick timeline from referral to evaluation underscored the center’s capacity to expedite transplantation care.

Multiple relatives and friends offered to help; Regalado was one of roughly a dozen people who applied to be donors and ultimately proved a near-perfect immunologic match. The transplant surgery proceeded as scheduled in October, performed by the hospital’s transplant team and supported by the center’s living donor protocols.

Four months after the procedure, Nicol-Moziejko reports substantial recovery and a renewed sense of purpose as she returns to life and work. The family notes that this decision to donate echoes a prior act of familial generosity—their mother had been a donor two decades earlier—highlighting living donor transplantation as a multigenerational source of hope and survival in the region.
