Former ER Nurse Regina Muldoon Becomes 700th heart Donor Through Live On Nebraska

USA: Regina Muldoon, a former emergency room nurse who died in a October biking accident, has become the 700th heart donation facilitated by Live On Nebraska, her family and the organization confirm. Muldoon’s decision to be a registered donor translated into multiple life-saving transplants, with her heart identified for transplantation and other organs and tissues directed to recipients in need. Her case underscores the tangible impact of deceased organ donation.

Muldoon reportedly signed up as an organ donor while obtaining a license years earlier, a choice her family says reflected her lifelong generosity and clinical instinct to help others. After her death, the family made the final authorization for donation, and doctors determined she could help several patients. The Muldoons say Regina’s organs supported at least five different recipients, including heart, lungs and kidneys, providing a second chance through transplantation.

Live On Nebraska, which recorded a record year with 121 organ donors helping save more than 300 lives in 2025, stresses that donated organs remain central to meeting rising demand. With nearly 400 patients on Nebraska’s transplant waiting list, the nonprofit frames each authorization as critical to fulfilling transplantation needs across the state. The organization emphasizes systems and coordination that move donated organs from donors to operating rooms and into transplant recipients efficiently.

The Muldoon family, all registered donors themselves, urge others to consider donor registration and to discuss wishes with loved ones so families can act quickly when donation is possible. They say the knowledge that Regina’s tissues and organs live on in others brings comfort amid grief, and they hope someday to meet the people whose lives were changed by her gift. Live On Nebraska continues outreach to expand donor registration and support donor families through the transplantation process.
