Families Of Logan Boulet And Noah Dugas Promote Organ Donation Ahead Of Green Shirt Day
WORLD NEWS – CANADA: Two Ontario families are using the memory of their sons to push urgent conversations about organ donation and transplantation as Green Shirt Day approaches on April 7. Parents of Logan Boulet and Noah Dugas say their sons’ decisions to be donors have kept many people alive and highlighted gaps in public awareness.
Logan Boulet, who was killed in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash, became a national symbol after his choice to be an organ donor enabled six people to receive corneas, a liver, kidneys, a heart and lungs. His parents launched Green Shirt Day to encourage registration and family conversations among the thousands of Canadians waiting for transplants.
Noah Dugas of North Bay suffered an unexpected brain bleed in 2020; his family authorized organ donation and his gifts have helped seven recipients. Among them was an 11-year-old girl who received Noah’s heart, a letter from her family later confirmed the life-changing impact of his donation.
Both families are urging clearer discussions about donor intent because, under current systems, family objections can halt organ procurement even when someone is registered. The Trillium Gift of Life Network reports about 35 percent of Ontarians—roughly 4.7 million people—are registered donors, and since 2003 more than 26,000 Ontarians have received life-saving organ transplants. Parents say the pain of their losses is tempered by the knowledge that their sons’ choices continue as a living legacy.
