University of South Alabama Heart Walk Honors Heart Transplant Recipient, Aims to Raise $200,000

MOBILE, ALABAMA, USA: In a city-wide endeavor to combat a persistent adversary, more than 500 participants assembled at the University of South Alabama for the annual Mobile heart Walk 2024. This poignant gathering sought to heighten awareness of heart health and amass critical funds for cardiovascular research, a cause increasingly crucial with heart disease remaining a formidable cause of death nationally.

Among the walkers, Kong and Jont Tasia stood out, driven by a deeply personal mission. They participate in this annual tradition in memory of Lang’s daughter, CeCe, who tragically passed eleven years ago following a heart transplant. Diagnosed with cardiomyopathy as a young child, her condition progressively impaired the heart‘s ability to pump blood effectively, leading to the surgery that, despite efforts, could not save her life.

Lang’s personal tragedy has fueled a passionate desire to support others, turning grief into advocacy. She and Jont Tasia encourage those lagging during the walk, inspiring them with motivational cheers to persevere. Lang hopes that by sharing her story and actively participating in these events, she can aid others in navigating the harrowing journey of heart disease and transplants, steering them away from enduring similar heartaches.

Event planners have set an ambitious fundraising target of $200,000, already nearing their goal with $178,500 secured from the event’s enthusiasts and supporters. Contributions will remain open until December 2nd, offering continued opportunities for people to impact positively through their donations. Each dollar counts towards groundbreaking research that could redefine futures, much like what the heart Walk symbolizes—a relentless stride forward, driven by memory, hope, and a collective will to conquer heart disease.
