Fraternity Brothers Honor West Chester University Student Garrett Nicholas Through Organ Donation Legacy
USA: Fraternity brothers, students and friends gathered at the Navy Yard in South Philadelphia this morning for the Gift of Life Donor Dash to honor West Chester University student Garrett Nicholas. About 75 members of his team ran and marched to celebrate his life and the decision his family made to give the gift of donation.
Nicholas was struck by a car near his fraternity house two weeks ago and later died. Gift of Life reported his organ donations saved three lives through transplantation and that his tissue donations could help heal up to 100 others, a ripple of care that extended his commitment to helping people beyond his years.
The Donor Dash, held on the Navy Yard, served both as a memorial and a public reminder of the impact of registering as a donor. Fraternity brothers and classmates said Nicholas had long prioritized helping others, and the event framed the organ and tissue contributions as a continuation of that spirit.
Medical and donation professionals with Gift of Life coordinated the donor process, and community members used the morning to raise awareness about the need for donors for transplantation and tissue repair. For the West Chester community and Nicholas’s friends, the dash turned grief into visible advocacy for lives saved and lives healed.
