Teen Soldier-Bound Athlete’s Organ Donations To Save Multiple Lives After Motorcycle Crash

USA: Nineteen-year-old Jagger Bergie of Finley passed away following a motorcycle crash last week, and his family is honoring his decision to be a donor by moving forward with organ procurement that will enable several transplants. Bergie, a two-sport high school athlete in football and track, had recently completed required testing and was due to begin military basic training next month.

Family members describe Bergie as caring and protective, a young man who planned ahead for service and for others. Because he had registered as an organ donor a few years earlier, clinicians and the family worked with Life Connection of Ohio to coordinate the medical and legal steps needed to support transplantation for multiple recipients.

Life Connection of Ohio confirmed Bergie’s decision will allow seven organs to be procured, including a kidney that has been matched to a service member and is scheduled for transplant soon. The organization notes that a single organ donor can save up to eight lives and that tissue donations can restore health or mobility for many more recipients.

A fundraising campaign has been established to support Bergie’s family as they navigate arrangements and memorial plans. Community members and classmates are remembering his athletic promise and his commitment to others through the legacy of transplantation his decision will create.
