WORLD NEWS – MEXICO: Mexico’s organ donation rates lag sharply behind international peers, with sources citing roughly 5.56 donors per million inhabitants nationwide and about six per million in one state, compared with around 49–50 per million in Spain, about 25 per million in Brazil and 30–35 per million in the United States. The disparity is drawing renewed attention from transplant professionals and patient advocates who say the country’s transplantation system is underused.

Medical leaders emphasize that donation and transplantation are established clinical pathways that can restore health and extend lives when organs and tissues are made available and matched. Those involved point to the need for broad public education and sensitization so families understand the procurement process and the potential for successful organ and tissue transplantation.

Regulatory oversight and legal safeguards are in place to support donation. National health authorities and the federal health regulator COFEPRIS are cited as institutions that provide follow-up, legal validation and institutional backing for procurement and redistribution of organs and tissues intended to improve recipients’ quality of life.
