Tammy Scott Marks 10-Year kidney transplant Milestone, Heads To Transplant Games In Denver

USA: Tammy Scott will travel to Denver next month to compete at the Transplant Games, marking the 10-year anniversary of a life-saving kidney transplant. The pilgrimage to this Olympic-style meet centers on transplantation as both a medical achievement and a public celebration of organ donation and survival.

Scott is slated to represent Team Michigan in four events, including a 5K run/walk and cycling, joining dozens of transplant recipients and living donors in athletic competition designed to spotlight long-term recovery and wellness after transplant. Organ and tissue transplantation is the focal point of the Games, which pair athletic challenge with advocacy for donation.

Her participation is also a personal tribute. Scott will honor her donor, Cody, a living donor whose kidney has been part of her life for a decade; Cody is the son of a former high school classmate. Scott describes the Games as an opportunity to showcase the donor–recipient relationship and to highlight the second chances transplantation can provide for families.

Organizers say the Transplant Games are intended to promote donation, encourage healthy lifestyles after transplantation, and provide a public, positive forum for recipients and donors. For Scott and many others, the event is both a competitive goal and a platform to inspire potential donors and transplant candidates considering their own paths to recovery.
