Penn State Health And Gift Of Life Honor Donors After Record US Transplants

The nonprofit Gift of Life Donor Program reported a historic milestone last year, coordinating the most transplants in US history, a record organizers said was achieved through expanded donor registration and intensive coordination among procurement, surgical and post-transplant teams. Penn State Health officials used the ceremony to recognize the hospital teams and donor families whose decisions made lifesaving organ and tissue transplantation possible.

Recipients and families in attendance spoke about recovery and renewed opportunity after transplant, crediting the Hershey Medical Center transplant teams with restoring health and function. Organ, eye and tissue donation, they said, turned personal tragedy into hope for others and reinforced the ripple effects of one donor’s decision across multiple lives.
