Family Of Seven-Year-Old Hit By SUV In Cedar City Chooses Organ Donation

USA: A seven-year-old boy was struck by an SUV while riding a scooter near his Cedar City home earlier this week and was flown to Primary children’s Hospital in Salt Lake City after sustaining catastrophic injuries. Hospital physicians later told the family he would not survive his injuries, and the child was moved to a quiet area of the hospital so he could pass peacefully.

The boy’s family, after prayer and discussion, decided to donate his organs to give other children a chance at life through transplantation. Relatives described him as a joyful child who loved superheroes and made everyone around him smile; his uncle, Andrew Levit, said that spirit helped shape the family’s choice to enable life for others even as they prepare to grieve.

Medical staff at Primary children’s coordinated with donation teams so the family’s wishes could be honored and organs could be procured for transplantation. The hospital community marked the child’s favorite color by lighting the building in green as family, friends and neighbors rallied support and comforted one another.

The family has asked for privacy and compassion as they navigate loss and the organ donation process. They expressed solace in knowing their son’s generosity will give other children a chance to recover and continue living, a final act they say reflects the bright, giving nature he showed every day.
