Community Fundraiser Boosts Got The Dot Leadership Program Promoting Organ And Tissue Donation
JJ’s Legacy, a nonprofit focused on saving lives through organ and tissue donation is stepping up efforts to support transplantation awareness and donor registration. The Got The Dot leadership program, created in 2016 to encourage teens to register as donors when obtaining their driver’s licenses, trains young advocates to educate families about donation and the procurement process that enables transplants. Program coordinators emphasize outreach, education, and creating a pipeline of informed potential donors to strengthen transplantation systems.
Parmpreet Bhangoo and Ali Matney are leading voices in the Got The Dot initiative, describing a slate of projects that pair peer leadership with community events to normalize donor registration among new drivers. The team is hosting a practical, pick-up fundraiser to underwrite program activities and outreach: on Tuesday, Feb. 3, supporters can purchase a $25 meal from Outback Steakhouse (steak and chicken, salad, and homemade mashed potatoes) available for pickup from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Proceeds will fund educational materials, registration drives, and local campaigns that encourage families to discuss donation decisions and prepare for transplantation needs.
Organizers frame the fundraiser as part of a broader campaign to boost registrations and public understanding of how donation enables life-saving transplants. By focusing on teenagers at the moment they get their driver’s license, the program aims to build long-term donor engagement and reduce barriers to donation conversations within households. The effort positions youth leadership as a critical lever to increase donor pools, support the logistics of procuring organs and tissues when needed, and ultimately save lives through more timely and informed transplantation.
