Nevada Donor Network’s Hope Dinner Honors Donors, Champions liver transplant Survival
November 14, 2025 — by Transplant News
USA: The Nevada Donor Network’s annual Hope Dinner drew more than 400 guests for an evening that placed organ, eye and tissue transplantation at the center of the story. The event recognized donor families, recipients and the constellation of community partners whose cooperation makes donation possible, bringing together those directly affected to thank and celebrate the lifesaving work they enabled.
Organizers emphasized the complexity and coordination required for successful donation and transplantation, noting that the effort depends on hospitals, emergency responders, donor families and registry participation. Ferrer, speaking for the organization, highlighted the stakes by reporting that 17 people a day in the United States die while waiting for an organ transplant, and said close collaboration with community partners is essential to give patients renewed chances at life. The evening’s turnout was presented as among the largest in the network’s history, underscoring the breadth of public support.
Olympic bronze medalist Chris Klug served as the keynote speaker and framed the human reality behind the statistics. Diagnosed in the early 2000s with a rare autoimmune liver disease, he spent nearly six years on a transplant waiting list before receiving a liver transplant. He described the experience of waiting as frightening and uncertain and now uses his transplant recovery and public profile to advocate for donation and reduce the burden on those still waiting.
The program ended with a practical call to action: attendees were urged to register as donors and to partner in outreach, with organizers providing links to the donor registry via their website. The dinner combined recognition, advocacy and personal testimony to keep transplantation squarely in the public eye and to press for greater community participation in donation.
