Agency President and CEO Brett Gordon reported roughly 2,000 Louisiana residents remain on transplant wait lists even as the organization reached a milestone in 2025, facilitating 336 donors — a record for the community — which resulted in 997 transplant sites tied to those donations. Those figures reflect increased coordination in donor identification, family engagement, and the complex logistics of procuring and transporting organs and tissues for transplantation.

Community education is central to the agency’s work. Ashley Davis, a community educator with deep personal ties to donation — her father received a liver transplant, her grandfather a heart transplant, and a relative later became an organ donor after a stroke — said those family experiences drive outreach efforts. Agency teams travel across the state to explain how individuals can register as donors and how donations become lifesaving transplants.

The agency also highlights inspiring stories, including a recently shared account of a 91-year-old donor whose generosity extended the lives of others. As Donate Life Month advances, Louisiana’s procurement teams and community educators are pressing to turn individual decisions into tangible transplantation outcomes and to carry forward the legacies of donor heroes.
