DHR Reaches 101 kidney Transplants As Texas Organ Alliance Strengthens Procurement Network
USA: DHR has reached a milestone of 101 kidney transplants, a tally that underscores the growing momentum of organ transplantation in the region and the crucial role of local organ procurement partners. Working with the Texas Organ Alliance and a Tulsa-based partner, DHR serves as the region’s primary transplant center, acting as the destination for patients on waiting lists and a focal point for a complex chain that moves donated organs from families to recipients.
The Texas Organ Alliance, a nonprofit organ procurement organization and one of only three serving the state, says it covers more than 56 counties across Central, North and South Texas and recently marked its 50th anniversary in 2025. The group describes itself as the bridge between families willing to donate and patients on transfer lists, partnering with every hospital in the valley to ensure donors who meet clinical criteria can proceed through careful assessment and respectful family communication. The organization emphasizes that a single deceased donor can enable as many as eight life-saving transplants.
Clinically, the process begins when a potential donor is referred; a specialized team evaluates medical suitability and coordinates with hospital staff and families to honor donor wishes while optimizing outcomes for recipients. With only one transplant center currently serving the immediate region, that coordination—between hospitals, the procurement organization and the transplant team at DHR—creates a vital pipeline for organs, tissues and biological material critical to transplantation success.
Officials urge the community to confront myths about donation and to participate in the lifesaving system. People can register as organ donors through the procurement organization’s website or simply check the organ-donor box when renewing a driver’s license, steps that organizers say help keep the transplant pipeline moving and multiply the chances of saving lives.
