Cornwell Health Enables Organ Donor Registration Through MyChart App; 2,000 Sign Up Since October

USA: Cornwell Health has launched a digital push to expand organ and tissue donation by adding donor registration directly into the MyChart patient portal, a move that officials say has produced more than 2,000 new registrations since October. The initiative places transplantation and procurement discussions inside a tool millions already use for appointments and medical records, positioning the hospital system to bolster supply for lifesaving procedures as nationwide need remains acute.

Hospital spokespeople framed the effort as a practical response to long waiting lists: roughly 100,000 people are on transplant rosters this year, and donors can make an outsized difference. Medical experts note that a single donor can enable as many as eight organ transplants and more than 75 bone and tissue transplantation procedures, amplifying impact across multiple surgical specialties and rehabilitation pathways. The integration into MyChart is designed to streamline consent and connect potential donors with organ procurement organizations and transplant centers more rapidly.

The enrollment step is simple by design: patients using MyChart are directed to the Health Summary tab where they can register their donor intent. Cornwell Health officials say the convenience has driven the early uptick, and they aim to sustain momentum through outreach within their patient population. The campaign emphasizes how digital access can translate into more durable transplant opportunities, faster coordination for tissue procurement, and increased availability of grafts for those awaiting lifesaving operations.

By folding donor registration into routine digital care, Cornwell Health hopes to convert everyday medical interactions into concrete pathways toward transplantation, addressing critical shortages while preserving respect for donors and families.
