Heart Transplant Recipient Tracy Meier Inspires Others and Raises Awareness About Heart Health

Tracy Meier, a heart transplant recipient from West Michigan, has had an unexpected health journey that has inspired others and raised awareness about heart health. In June 2023, Tracy experienced severe shortness of breath, which led to a diagnosis that her heart was failing. She had previously undergone radiation and chemotherapy, which contributed to her condition. After spending 42 days in the hospital, Tracy received a mechanical heart pump, and months later, she was added to the heart transplant list.

Exactly one week later, she received the life-changing call for a heart transplant, just before a planned trip to Chicago. After her surgery, Tracy was amazed when two players from the local hockey team visited her with a signed pillow and jersey. Ten months later, the team surprised her again with another visit to show their support.

Tracy’s story is helping bring attention to cardiovascular health, particularly for women over 20, as nearly 45% of women have some risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Tracy advocates for women to be aware of their bodies, seek help, and not ignore symptoms.
