WORLD NEWS – ARGENTINA: A multidisciplinary medical team in San Luis carried out a unique kidney transplantation on a patient who had not yet begun dialysis, part of a program designed to intervene at the late stages of renal insufficiency to avoid dialysis initiation. The procedure is described as the first of its kind in the province, aimed at giving patients an alternative trajectory before chronic renal replacement therapy becomes mandatory.

The intervention grew out of a targeted assistance program that follows patients who are approaching the need for dialysis. Clinicians provided individualized monitoring and prepared the patient and family with the explicit goal of avoiding entry into dialysis.
