Fred, a diehard Philadelphia Eagles fan, is celebrating more than just his team’s Super Bowl victory—he’s also recovering from life-saving organ transplants at Penn Medicine. The 52-year-old postal worker, who has liver disease and other complications, spent the entire football season in the hospital, undergoing both a kidney and a liver transplant.
His journey mirrored the Eagles’ season in an extraordinary way. The day before the Eagles’ first game, he received a kidney transplant. The day before the Super Bowl, he had a liver transplant. Despite recovering in a hospital bed, he stayed emotionally invested in every game. His excitement peaked when Cooper DeJean’s pick-six sent his heart rate soaring to 125 beats per minute, prompting hospital staff to rush in—only to find him cheering.
Now recovering at home in Reading, Fred calls himself a blessed man, grateful for the second chance at life. He believes his fate is intertwined with the Eagles’ success and plans to watch the Super Bowl Victory Parade with the same passion. Smiling through it all, he declares, “Go Eagles! Go Birds!”
