Double Heart Transplant Recipient Jacob Sarah of Boise Reunites With Life-Saving Heroes in Special Ceremony

BOISE, IDAHO, USA: An inspiring celebration unfolded in Boise, where 19-year-old Jacob Sarah, a double heart transplant recipient and stroke survivor, was reunited with the first responders who saved his life. A special ceremony honored the brave actions of Ada County paramedics and Boise firefighters, who rushed to Jacob’s aid when he went into sudden cardiac arrest.

Jacob’s medical journey has been well-documented by KTVB, following his close brushes with death. On February 22, 2024, an alarming call came through: an 18-year-old in code blue, signifying cardiac arrest. Jacob had called his mother after feeling lightheaded. Shortly after, he collapsed, leading to a desperate race against time for his father, Andrew, who arrived home to find him unconscious.

Boise firefighter Eric Baker and his team responded, administering CPR as Jacob lay unresponsive. Ada County paramedics joined the effort, ensuring Jacob received critical care that ultimately saved his life. The event marked a rare and meaningful occasion for the rescuers, as they seldom meet the individuals they’ve saved.

In recognition of their heroism, these first responders were awarded the Ada County City Emergency Services Life-Saving Award. The celebration was not only a heartfelt reunion but also a testament to the life-saving power of teamwork. Jacob, who has endured a second heart transplant and has battled through a stroke, has emerged resilient and grateful, crediting his survival to the collective efforts of his heroes.

The ceremony additionally honored dispatcher Amy Robuck, who provided crucial guidance to Jacob’s father, helping him perform CPR until emergency teams arrived. Jacob’s family expressed their deep gratitude, acknowledging these unsung heroes and their pivotal roles in his ongoing recovery journey. Jacob’s story underscores the profound impact of timely intervention and the indomitable spirit required to conquer life’s toughest challenges.
