In a recent update, the province of Misiones has been recognized for its leadership in organ donation, sharing the top spot with other provinces. The province’s success can be attributed to a well-established structure, which includes the Mariaga Hospital and three other hospitals that have specialized and highly developed organ procurement units.
Misiones aims to increase organ and tissue donation rates by expanding its procurement efforts. The province has become a national leader in transplant procedures, with the highest transplant rates calculated by population. The province’s efforts are seen as a model, and if the rest of the country operated at the same pace, the national transplant waiting list would be significantly reduced.
As part of its success, Misiones has become a hub for patients from all over Argentina. In December, the province received patients from Entre Ríos, and in January, patients from Tucumán were also treated. Previously, the province primarily served patients from nearby regions like Corrientes, Formosa, and Chaco, but now it is part of a broader national network.
The hospitals in Misiones continue to work on improving their systems for organ donation, with the aim of increasing both the number of donors and the efficiency of transplants. This collaboration is not only benefiting local patients but also making a significant impact on the healthcare system nationwide.
The province’s progress in organ donation is a testament to the effectiveness of its healthcare infrastructure, which could serve as a blueprint for other regions in Argentina and beyond.
