The region registered six donors during the year, a figure health officials say reflects sustained community solidarity and institutional focus on organ procurement and transplantation.

Hospital Clínico’s transplant and procurement coordination, led by nurse Ailí Campos, credited years of public sensitization and family conversations about end-of-life wishes for the unusually high consent levels. Officials report virtually no family refusals in Magallanes, a cultural dynamic that has smoothed the pathway for timely organ procurement and donor care.

At the national level, Dr. José Luis Rojas, coordinator of transplants at the Ministry of Health, praised the Servicio de Salud de Magallanes and its professionalized teams for achieving the country’s highest donation rate for a second consecutive year. He highlighted the teamwork across hospital leadership and coordination units as critical to translating trust into near-universal family agreement and sustained donor activity.

The 2025 donations in Magallanes made possible 27 organ transplantations, giving recipients renewed life and time with loved ones.
