Fortnite Launches Empathy Quest Letting Players Experience child heart transplant Journey
USA: Fortnite has introduced a limited-time interactive experience during heart Month that puts players inside the emotional and medical landscape of a child awaiting a heart transplant. In the game’s Super Pet world, the Alice quest guides users through a narrative designed to mirror real patient experiences, turning players into active participants rather than passive observers. The project aims to illuminate what hospital stays, waiting lists, and mechanical support look and feel like for young transplant patients.
Led by game designer Brian Grayson and developed in partnership with nonprofit Enduring Hearts, the experience draws on actual patient stories to craft a side quest in which players help build a mechanical heart modeled after devices used to support children while they await transplantation. The gameplay emphasizes decision-making, companion networks and the long arc of care—underscoring that receiving a donor heart is only one phase in a broader rehabilitation and recovery process. By making players the protagonists, the designers intend to deepen empathy and understanding of the clinical realities behind pediatric transplantation.
The Alice quest is available throughout February in Fortnite’s Super Pet area, with organizers hoping the interactive format will reflect the resilience of kids facing transplants and broaden public awareness of the medical and emotional journey. The initiative spotlights transplantation as a complex, life-saving field and leverages mainstream gaming to reach new audiences with a vivid, experiential look at waiting, support, and medical technology.
