Fundraising Boston Walk Empowers Banff Hospital’S Kidney Dialysis Unit

Banff Rotary Club organized a fundraising walking challenge to support the kidney dialysis unit in Banff’s Chalmers Hospital. The challenge was inspired by Helen Barron, a local woman who was treated in the unit and recently had a successful kidney transplant. Participants aimed to collectively walk the 6,140 miles from Macduff to Boston and back again over the month of August, in honor of Boston being the location of the first kidney transplant in 1954. The group successfully completed the challenge and raised a total of £3,828, with half of the funds going to Friends of Chalmers Hospital and the other half going to local groups supported by the Rotary club. Helen Barron, along with her husband, participated in the challenge and expressed her delight with how it went, stating that she received great care in the kidney dialysis unit and was glad to be able to help them and other groups. The Friends of Chalmers Hospital will work with Aberdeenshire and Moray Dialysis to determine how the funds should be invested in the Banff unit.
