Douglas County Fire Chief Miles Allen Seeks Living kidney Donor For PKD Transplant

USA: Douglas County Fire Chief Miles Allen, 57, is urgently seeking a living kidney donor after his kidney function declined due to polycystic kidney disease, putting transplantation squarely at the center of his care plan. Without a timely match, Allen faces long-term dialysis and the uncertainty that comes with it.

A veteran firefighter since 1988, Allen has balanced decades of emergency service with family life, but says worsening kidney function has forced him to slow down. His nephrologist identified kidney cysts and confirmed an inherited diagnosis of PKD, a condition that progressively impairs renal function and now requires either a living-donor transplant or ongoing dialysis.

Kristen Serna of the National kidney Foundation notes that PKD is a genetic disease with particularly high prevalence and faster progression in the Black community, a pattern that contributes to earlier kidney failure and greater urgency for transplantation among affected patients. For Allen, a living donor offers the best chance to restore kidney function and return to active duty and family life.

Allen’s family and colleagues in Douglas County are publicizing his need for a compatible living kidney donor and asking the community to consider evaluation. He is approaching each day with determination, focused on extending the time he has with his loved ones and on securing a transplantation that can give him a life beyond dialysis.
