Robert Wood Johnson Celebrates Life-Saving heart, kidney And pancreas Transplants During Donate Life Month
USA: At Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, clinicians and recipients gathered Friday to mark the start of Donate Life Month by highlighting recent transplant successes and the families behind them. Among those honored was Raymond McKnight, who was listed for a heart transplant after being diagnosed with congestive heart failure and received a match after 51 days on the list.
Also celebrated was Richard Bowman, who underwent a simultaneous pancreas and kidney transplantation following complex health complications. A year after his double-organ surgery he is back with his family and focused on rebuilding life for his son, Rory. The hospital used the event to spotlight how advances in transplantation have changed survival and recovery trajectories for multi-organ patients.
Another recipient, identified as Tucker from Bordentown, received a kidney last year after months of dialysis and intense personal loss. His message to others still waiting: persist with treatment and medication regimes and stay engaged with transplant programs β persistence can eventually yield a lifesaving match.
Physicians at Robert Wood Johnson reminded attendees of the continuing need for registered donors and encouraged those who have not yet signed up to check the organ donor box when renewing driverβs licenses or register online. The gathering emphasized transplantationβs impact on individuals and families, the role of donor procurement in making transplants possible, and the ongoing efforts to expand access to these procedures.
