House Hearing on Organ Transplant System
A House Oversight subcommittee held a virtual hearing to examine the nation’s organ transplant waitlist system. Among those testifying were medical doctors, organ transplant candidates and recipients, and with executives from organ donation non-profit organizations.
Lawmakers heard first-hand testimony from two patients waiting for liver transplants.
Throughout the hearing, subcommittee members asked about racial equity in organ transplantation and ways to improve the organ procurement organizations (OPOs).
