Charlotte businessman and finance expert Mark Henry, known for his appearances on WCNC’s personal finance segments, recently shared his inspiring journey of resilience and the profound impact of organ donation. Despite appearing energetic and in good health during his last studio visit in October, Henry was quietly battling stage five kidney disease. Diagnosed with diabetes, a condition that eventually led to severe kidney damage, Henry’s health crisis became a family affair when his eldest son, Hunter, decided to intervene.
Hunter, aware of his father’s deteriorating condition, tested to see if he could be a kidney donor match. Initially, Henry resisted the idea, preferring to wait for a donor from the transplant list. However, Hunter’s determination led him to participate in a kidney swap program, which ultimately convinced his father to accept the life-saving gift. On November 7th, Mark Henry received a kidney from his 28-year-old son, an act that has since transformed his life and underscored the profound bond between them. Both father and son have since recovered, with Hunter reflecting on the crucial need for organ donation awareness. For more information on organ donation, visit WCNC’s website.
