Genesis Medical Center in Davenport Raises ‘Donate Life’ Flag to Honor Organ Donors

Hospitals in the region are celebrating National Donate Life Month with flag-raising ceremonies, including an event at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport. Participants gathered to raise the Donate Life flag in recognition of individuals who have chosen to share the gift of life through organ, eye, and tissue donation. The ceremony included a moment of silence to honor those who have made life-saving donations.

One donor emphasized the urgency of the situation, noting that over 100,000 people are currently waiting for transplants. She pointed out that many potential donors disqualify themselves, mistakenly believing they have nothing viable to offer. In reality, not only solid organs can be donated, but bone marrow and tissue are also valuable for saving lives.

To promote awareness and encourage more individuals to consider donation, she urged people to register with both state and national donor registries. This outreach is crucial in increasing the number of available donors and ultimately helping to close the gap for those in need of transplants.
