Family, Friends Of Asheboro Teenager Killed In Shooting Honor Him In Organ Donor Honor Walk

On Sunday morning, the family of an Asheboro teen, Pedro Ortiz Perez, faced an unimaginable tragedy as they began making funeral plans for their son, who was shot and killed the previous night. In a solemn and moving tribute, family, friends, and teammates of Pedro lined the halls of the hospital for an honor walk, a ceremony held for organ donors.

Pedro, who was shot at North Asheboro Park, succumbed to his injuries more than a week after the incident. Asheboro police are now preparing to present upgraded charges to a grand jury, seeking a possible indictment of the 16-year-old charged in connection with the shooting. Investigators continue to work on the case, as the community mourns the loss of a young life and honors Pedro’s selfless decision to become an organ donor.
