A Call for More Organ Donors During National Donate Life Month

At a recent news conference at the Enola Driver’s License Center, organ recipients emphasized the life-saving impact of organ donation and encouraged people to register as donors. Highlighting the ease of the process, PennDOT officials noted that individuals can sign up to be organ donors simply by checking a box when obtaining or renewing their driver’s license or ID at the DMV. This step adds the words “Organ Donor” in a red heart on their license or ID, joining nearly 5 million Pennsylvanians who have already registered.

Recipients of donated organs expressed deep gratitude at the event, sharing personal stories of how receiving an organ saved their lives. They urged others to consider the profound difference that organ donation can make, particularly for the estimated 7,000 people in Pennsylvania currently waiting for a transplant.

PennDOT also reminded the public that they can register as organ donors online through the PennDOT website, making the process accessible and straightforward. This initiative underscores the significant and selfless act of organ donation, offering hope and a second chance at life to those in need.
