Jefferson County students Marquis Lewis, Queen Wma, and Sarah Catherine Thompson have been awarded scholarships for their outstanding efforts in promoting organ donation awareness within their community. These scholarships, part of the 2024 Donate Life Kentucky Scholarship program, valued at $1,000 each, recognize students across the Commonwealth who actively engage in educating their peers about the critical importance of becoming organ donors.
Thompson, a recent graduate of Christian Academy of Louisville, shared her personal connection to organ donation, highlighting its profound impact on saving lives and fostering enduring friendships. She emphasized how organ donation not only saved her father’s life but also forged meaningful bonds between donors and recipients, transcending time and distance.
The scholarship recipients, including Lewis, Wma, and Thompson, were selected from over 70 applicants representing 38 counties in Kentucky. Out of the numerous applicants, 20 students were chosen as scholarship awardees, recognizing their dedication to raising awareness and promoting organ donation within their communities. Thompson’s heartfelt testimony underscores the profound impact of organ donation, not only in saving lives but also in cultivating lasting relationships that endure beyond the transplant procedure.
