Ronney Hester, an Army veteran, has achieved complete remission from multiple myeloma after undergoing an autologous stem cell transplant. The transplant utilized Hester’s own healthy blood stem cells to replace diseased blood. The process involves various healthcare professionals, including nurses, social workers, pharmacists, and physicians. The transplant does not require surgery and mainly entails apheresis and chemotherapy to clear out the bone marrow. Hester received care at Loma Linda University Cancer Center’s Bone Marrow Transplant program and credits the care team’s kindness and support for his positive experience. As one of the only programs offering autologous stem cell transplants in the Inland Empire, their services are valuable to patients in the region. Hester hopes to continue healing and spend time with his loved ones, returning to activities like golf.
