Seven-year-old Campbell Cummings, a schoolboy from Portlethen, is preparing to walk 10 kilometers around Aberdeen’s Duthie Park to raise funds for the charity Friends of Anchor, which supports cancer patients and their families in the north-east of Scotland. Campbell’s father, Steven, is undergoing treatment for acute myeloid leukemia. The idea for the fundraising walk came about during one of their regular walks together. Campbell’s 12-year-old brother Leo will join him in the challenge, which will take place on Sunday, December 17. So far, Campbell has raised £700 towards his goal and is encouraging others to join him or make a donation.
Steven, who has received treatment at the Anchor unit in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, was diagnosed in September and underwent a stem cell transplant earlier this year. Despite complications and an extended hospital stay, he has remained positive and even climbed Bennachie with his sons shortly after returning home. Both Campbell and Steven are now training for the charity walk, with a target to raise £1,000. Donations can be made through their fundraising page.
