Musician Seeks Urgent Bone Marrow Transplant – GoFundMe Aims for $50K

Jermaine McLean, a musician based in Ocho Rios, is currently battling a critical case of aplastic anaemia and urgently needs help to undergo a bone marrow transplant in the United States. The condition, which causes the bone marrow to stop producing red and white blood cells, has left McLean with dangerously low levels of platelets, red blood cells, and white blood cells. Unfortunately, this condition cannot be treated in Jamaica, forcing him to seek medical assistance overseas.

Aplastic anaemia is a rare disorder that can occur at any age and may develop suddenly or gradually over time. Symptoms include fatigue, increased susceptibility to infections, and uncontrolled bleeding. Treatment options range from medications and blood transfusions to stem cell transplants, or bone marrow transplants. In order to receive the life-saving treatment he desperately needs, McLean is currently hospitalized at Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, St James. However, he requires $7.75 million (approximately US$50,000) to travel to the National Institute of Health Hospital in Maryland, USA.

A GoFundMe page has been established to rally support for Jermaine McLean’s battle against the life-threatening condition. With a modest response thus far, the campaign seeks to raise funds to cover the significant cost of the bone marrow transplant. The page emphasizes the urgent need for assistance and encourages individuals to join the fight to save McLean’s life.
