UK Woman, 34, donates womb to sister, granting her chance to conceive

Britain’s first womb transplant has been hailed as a “massive success” after a woman gave her younger sister the opportunity to carry a baby. The operation was performed at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford by a team of 30 medics from Imperial College London and the Oxford Transplant Centre. The 34-year-old recipient now hopes to have two children and it is anticipated that up to 30 womb transplants will be carried out annually, using both living and deceased donors. There are 15,000 women in the UK who are unable to have children due to not having a functioning womb.
