Tampa General Hospital Collaborates with Florida’s Agriculture Commissioner to Safeguard Kids from Potent THC

Tampa General Hospital hosted a roundtable discussion with senior leaders and policymakers to address the risks of unintentional ingestion of high-potency THC products among children. The Commissioner of Agriculture for Florida, Wilton Simpson, joined the discussion to discuss state-level efforts to protect children and consumers from these products. The roundtable tackled various measures to ensure child safety, including age restrictions, inspections, and proper labeling of high-potency THC products.

In July and August, the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services discovered over 81,000 packages of hemp extract products, including high-potency THC products disguised as candy or popular snacks. These products are appealing to children and can lead to unintentional ingestion, with potentially life-threatening consequences. The roundtable discussion aimed to raise awareness and find additional ways to safeguard children by enforcing legislation and increasing protections for consumers.
