Outstanding Performance by Middlesex Players in Bellamy and Sons Paving Marisa Rose Bowl

The 2022 Bellamy and Sons Paving Marisa Rose Bowl, an intra-Middlesex County all-star charity football game, took place recently. North Brunswick quarterback Frankie Garbolino, who had always wanted to play in the game, got his chance this year. Garbolino ended up being named the game’s Most Valuable Player after he threw for two touchdowns and rushed for two scores. He played every snap at quarterback, leading Team Rose to a 37-15 victory over Team Marisa. The game raised funds for The Marisa Tufaro Foundation, which supports pediatric patients and other children in need in Middlesex County. Proceeds from this year’s contest will be donated to PSE&G Children’s Specialized Hospital of New Brunswick and the Lakeview School, two organizations that initially benefited from the event when it was known as the Snapple Bowl and Autoland Classic. The game’s namesake, Marisa Rose Tufaro, was a young girl who battled multiple health issues before passing away from cancer at the age of 13.

In the game, Garbolino had strong chemistry with his North Brunswick teammate Alani Ajigbotosho, connecting with him for a 44-yard pass on the first play and throwing an 8-yard touchdown pass to him on the opening drive. Garbolino also rushed for two scores, contributing to Team Rose’s dominant win. Another standout player was J.F. Kennedy’s Gabe Perez, who made several impactful plays including two fumble recoveries, an interception, and a long punt return that set up a Team Rose touchdown. The game not only showcased the talent of these young athletes but also served as a reminder of the importance of supporting charitable causes, as all proceeds went to help children in need. The Marisa Tufaro Foundation, named after the game’s namesake, was created to provide assistance to pediatric patients and other children in the greater Middlesex County area.
