New Jersey Cancer Center Appoints Leading Expert in Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation

Niketa C. Shah, MD, has been appointed as the chief of Pediatric Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapies at Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey and RWJBarnabas Health. Dr. Shah will enhance and oversee the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapies Program, which offers both allogeneic and autologous transplants for various cancers, as well as cell-based treatments like gene therapy and immunotherapy. The program is also one of the few in New Jersey that uses stem cell transplants for the treatment of benign diseases in children. Dr. Shah aims to provide these treatments to pediatric patients near their homes, eliminating the need for them to travel far for treatment.

The appointment of Dr. Shah significantly expands the pediatric bone marrow transplant capacity at Rutgers Cancer Institute and enhances the stature of the Pediatric Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapies Program. Dr. Shah brings a diverse range of training and experience to the role, having previously worked at Yale University and Yale New Haven Children’s Hospital. She is committed to providing children in need of life-saving treatments with access to these therapies close to home.
