Living Donor Awareness: College Student Donates Part Of Her Liver To Little Boy

In January of last year, three-year-old Curtis Binkley was placed on the liver transplant list, prompting his family to seek support and prayers from their community. Their prayers were answered when Shannon Black, a registered living liver donor, was found to be a perfect match for Curtis. Initially hoping to donate to her cousin, who sadly did not survive due to the wait, Shannon’s selfless decision ended up saving Curtis’s life, offering hope to a family that had endured months of uncertainty.

Following the successful transplant, Curtis’s family and Shannon gathered at Cincinnati’s Great American Ballpark, where they celebrated the positive outcome and raised awareness for living liver donations. The event underscored the vital role of donors, as highlighted by Shannon’s experience and the life-changing impact it had on Curtis. Shannon’s story serves as a poignant reminder of the significance of organ donation, emphasizing that each donation can save lives and move others up the transplant list.

The Living Liver Foundation’s second annual Living Donor Awareness Game, featuring the Reds vs. the Brewers at Great American Ballpark, is scheduled for April 11th. This event aims to support the mission of increasing awareness and encouraging more people to become living donors.
