North Carolina Mom Receives Liver Transplant After Two-Year Wait

A mother in Forsyth County, North Carolina, received a much-needed Christmas miracle after waiting two years for a liver transplant. Ashley Payne, who was diagnosed with two rare liver diseases ten years ago, spent her days in and out of Duke Hospital. In September, after more than six months on the transplant list, Payne finally received the call she had been waiting for. Since her successful liver transplant on September 26th, Payne has been exceeding her doctors’ expectations and recovering quickly. She credits her son for being her inspiration and is looking forward to spending time with him and her loved ones during the holiday season. In the new year, Payne hopes to get back to her passion of doing hair. She is extremely grateful to her organ donor and hopes to meet the donor’s family and start a volunteer organization to assist patients in hospitals with their hair and beauty needs.
