In a powerful demonstration of community spirit, Mercyhurst University recently partnered with the Center for Organ Recovery and Research to host a lacrosse tournament aimed at raising awareness and funds for the organ donation community. The event featured participation from nine men’s and five women’s college lacrosse programs, including teams from Canisius, Akron, and Ohio Wesleyan. This collaborative effort brought together student-athletes to highlight the life-saving potential of organ donation.

Ryan Scoble, the founder of the event, shared his personal journey that inspired him to take action. After facing severe medical challenges, including a diagnosis of late-stage heart failure at just 21 years old, Scoble received a heart transplant, which gave him a second chance at life. His experience motivated him to honor his donor by returning to the sport he loves, and he emphasized the crucial message that a single organ donor can save up to eight lives.

The lacrosse tournament not only showcased athletic talent but also served as a heartfelt reminder of the importance of organ donation. With each game played, the participants and spectators alike rallied to support a cause that affects countless lives, reinforcing the message that awareness and action can lead to transformative change within the community.
