Life-saving Option: Double Lung Transplant Only Hope for Cure

A charity tractor run and dyno day will be held later this month to raise funds for Mary T Walsh Sexton’s ongoing medical expenses and house modifications. Mary, a married mother-of-three from Co Limerick, was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis in late 2022 and requires lifelong use of oxygen and has poor lung function. Her family has set up a GoFundMe page with a fundraising target of €30,000. Mary contracted COVID-19, which led to lung failure, double pneumonia, and a blood clot in the lungs. After several months in the hospital and rehabilitation, she returned home in June 2022. Her family hopes she will eventually be eligible for a double lung transplant. The charity event will be held in Kilmallock, Co Limerick, and all funds raised will go to Mary’s family.

Mary T Walsh Sexton, who comes from a farming family, has strong support from her husband, sons, and the farming community. Her son Darragh is completing an agricultural science degree and works part-time with an agricultural contractor, while her other son Ciaran is an engineer but also milks cows part-time. The upcoming charity event, which includes a vintage run and dyno testing, will take place on August 20th, 2023, at GVM Mart in Kilmallock. Participants can register for the event, and all vehicles are welcome, with an entry fee of €20. Dyno testing requires pre-booking. The funds raised will help alleviate some of the financial burdens faced by Mary’s family so they can focus on her ongoing care and recovery.
