Lung Transplant Surgeon Overcomes Injury to Perform Successful Surgery in Chennai

In a remarkable display of dedication, cardiothoracic surgeon Dr Sanjeev Jadhav continued with a scheduled lung transplant surgery in Chennai after being injured in an accident near Pune. The doctor and his medical team were transporting harvested lungs from a hospital in Pune to Chennai when the ambulance they were in met with an accident. Despite suffering injuries, Dr Jadhav chose to prioritize the lifesaving surgical procedure and performed the transplant on a 26-year-old patient in Chennai, with the assistance of his team. The critical organ had a limited viability of six hours, making it crucial to transport it to Chennai for the surgery.

The accident occurred on Monday evening when the ambulance collided with a bridge railing, resulting in significant damage to the vehicle. Dr Jadhav sustained injuries to his head, hands, and knee, while other members of his team also suffered injuries. Undeterred, they quickly transferred the harvested organ to another vehicle and reached the airport, where a chartered plane was waiting. This extraordinary commitment to duty highlights the dedication and selflessness of medical professionals like Dr Jadhav, who prioritize their patients’ well-being above their personal circumstances. Despite facing adversity, Dr Jadhav and his team went above and beyond to ensure a successful transplant, saving a patient’s life. Their quick actions and unwavering commitment serve as a reminder of the incredible resilience and compassion exhibited by healthcare professionals in challenging situations.
