Thermo Fisher Scientific’s PPD clinical research business has been awarded a five-year contract to provide a Transplantation Statistical and Clinical Coordinating Center for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the US. The center will support the design, development, execution, and analysis of NIAID transplantation clinical trials and research, providing a range of services critical to these studies. Thermo Fisher’s PPD clinical research business has extensive experience in delivering clinical research services globally, and has conducted nearly 150 studies in transplantation and related areas over the past five years.
Thermo Fisher has recently expanded its transplant diagnostics capabilities through the opening of its One Lambda Laboratories, which offers noninvasive, post-transplant testing services. The company aims to improve long-term outcomes for transplant patients with rapid and non-invasive testing methods. The NIAID project will be funded with federal funds from NIAID, NIH, and the Department of Health and Human Services, and Thermo Fisher’s role in the project is to design and implement efficient clinical trials to advance the science of transplantation.
