In Rushville, Illinois, Craig Cotter is making it his mission to spread awareness about the critical importance of organ donation. Eight years after receiving a life-saving heart transplant, Cotter is dedicated to educating others on how organ donations can vastly improve and even save lives. Cotter, who received his new heart from a donor named Tom, shares his heartfelt story and the impact of organ donations at local high schools, aiming to inform students about making the choice to become organ donors when they apply for their licenses.

Conter also highlights the variety of tissues and organs that can be donated beyond just the heart, emphasizing the profound impact such donations can have. For instance, individuals can receive skin tissue, corneas, pancreas, and even small intestines, drastically improving or even saving lives. He noted that one organ donor could potentially save or enhance the lives of up to 37 people, underscoring the critical importance of organ donation in transforming numerous lives.

Moreover, Conter points out that since his life-changing heart transplant, he has been able to maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. Despite being retired, he still takes on labor-intensive odd jobs such as bartending and substitute bus driving. By sharing his experiences and maintaining an active role in his community, Conter aims to convey the message that organ recipients can continue to live fulfilling lives post-transplant, encouraging more people to consider becoming organ donors.
